The Republic of Malawi is a small, landlocked country in the southeastern part of Africa, bordered by Tanzania to the north, Zambia to the west, and Mozambique to the east, with Lake Malawi, Africa’s third-largest lake, lying between Malawi and its western neighbor. It is a vast, natural landmass.
Malawi Geisha was introduced from neighboring Ethiopia in the mid-20th century and is a rare and historic variety, now primarily grown in the highest-quality region of Misuku Mountain. This region's terrain is characterized by high-altitude plateaus ranging from 1,700 - 2,300 meters above sea level. The soil is rich in weathered parent rock, highly acidic, and consists mainly of dark brown-red clay and sandy soil. The climate is perfect for Arabica coffee cultivation, with annual rainfall ranging between 1,500 - 2,000 millimeters.
Compared to Kenya, Malawi offers a notable level of sweetness and fragrance, especially with the White Honey Process, which enhances its fruity aromas and lingering sweetness, creating a lively and distinct flavor profile. The acidity is relatively softer, presenting a unique style with clean and bright overall flavors.
Malawi is a member of the Eastern Africa Fine Coffees Association (EAFCA) and actively participates in promoting its coffee at major annual events such as the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA) and Specialty Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE) exhibitions. As a result, it has gained increasing exposure and is becoming more popular among coffee enthusiasts in recent years.
