Zouzhouyuan - A Dream-Fulfilled Coffee Plantation by a Young Indigenous Farmer
Located in the Le Ye tribe of Alishan Township, the owner of Zouzhouyuan is a young indigenous youth known as the "Coffee Prince," Mr. Fang Zhenglun. In 2007, he won the title of Gukeng Coffee Bean Roasting Champion. His family initially grew high-mountain tea and butterfly orchids, but after winning his first award at the Taiwan Coffee Evaluation, he gradually transitioned into the coffee industry. Now in its 19th year, Zouzhouyuan has been at the forefront of the high-mountain coffee revolution in Alishan. In 2017, Mr. Fang received Taiwan’s prestigious "Top 10 Agricultural Heroes" award. At the end of 2018, he won the Abody-certified Asian Green Bean Championship at the Asian Coffee Conference. Additionally, his green beans have earned a "93" rating at the Coffee Review, setting a new record for Taiwanese-produced coffee.
The quality of coffee is closely related to factors like climate, altitude, and soil. Alishan’s cool climate, strong sunlight, afternoon mountain mist, and ample water content create the perfect growing conditions for coffee.
The coffee at Zouzhouyuan is planted at an altitude of around 1200 to 1300 meters, which is nearly the same latitude as Jamaica’s Blue Mountain coffee. This region is ideal for coffee cultivation and boasts around a dozen different varieties. The meticulous management required for high-mountain tea and butterfly orchids has been adapted to high-mountain coffee cultivation, and the research-driven approach continually refines their post-harvest processing methods. Over the years, this has garnered widespread acclaim for Alishan coffee in the industry.
